Our Philosophy
At SUSU Organic we want to promote amazing local communities that exist all over the UK that will help us shop, cook live and eat in a more positive, sustainable way.
We also believe in good seasonal food, produced with care, and It would be great if everyone had a go at growing or raising at least some of their own food, and buy the rest as close to it's original home as possible. If we try to eat seasonal produce (which is much more varied that you think did you know that we grow walnuts in the UK?!) and ethically-produced meat, we will be eating fresher healthier food, and also doing our bit towards helping the environment!
At the Grand Designs Exhibition at the NEC, 2006, Diarmuid Gavin was exhibiting a three tier way of growing vegetables inspired by his visit to Africa. They do it this way to maximise the use of the water, growing vegetables along the sides and also on the top row (A bit like a hanging basket where flowers grow at the sides and also on the top). Even those of us with just a balcony could grow some organic veggies this way! You really can't beat the taste of fresh tomatoes - for that you could just buy a grow bag and plant away!!
If we adopt even some of these ideas, I think we will find that our relationship with food and our daily life changes for the better. A real 'feel good' factor!
Small things make a big difference and we promote companies that try to care for the environment and other people. We are not a charity and make no apology for that - we all have to earn money (unless you can get us some funding!) - but we don't want anyone to be excluded from our directory because of price, and so it is only £5 a month to advertise with us, and for that you get a whole webpage of your own to update as you will!
For those of us that dont have an eco-business, but just want to live a greener lifestyle, the articles and directory can help you to 'do your bit', without having to spend hours on the internet searching for the information!
Wishing you love and health
