Scottish Mill Weaves First Organic Tweed
April 05 2007
Britain’s first organic tweed is in production at a farm on the Isle of Mull, off the west coast of Scotland. The unique cloth is the product of ten years work by Aeneas and Minty MacKay and their flock of 300 rare Hebridean sheep.
At Ardalanish Organic Farm they produce a range of beautiful organic tweeds rugs and knitwear from the wool of Native Hebridean Sheep, and in August last year, following an inspection by the Soil Association, the farm mill was awarded Scotland’s first organic certificate
The mill now has an online shop, where the products are shipped directly from their weaving looms in Mull to you. They also sell organic Highland beef and Hebridean mutton.
Aeneas and Minty believe that respecting the symbiotic relationship between man, animals and nature leads to harmony and vitality, both in their animals and in the land; and that each customer becomes part of, and contributes to, this positive flow of energy as we wear their garments or eat their organic meat. What a lovely thought.
