Organic Food Too Expensive? Grow Your Own On Your Windowsill
February 15 2007
Practical hints and inspiring visits
Organic food is thought to be expensive, and only affordable by the more affluent members of society. Well we can change that by growing our own, and you dont need a big garden. Organic food can be grown in an allotment, a yard, a balcony or even a windowsill.
For more information on how to get started, check out Garden Organic or visit them in person! Their display gardens at Ryton in Warwickshire show just how easy it is to grow vegetables at home, including growing vegetables in containers
They also have a Heritage Seed Library - a unique collection of 800 old and unusual vegetable varieties collected over the years.
Most of their delicious homemade food, all of which is organically grown, comes from the gardens themselves - so freshness is guaranteed! Try the homemade soup with freshly baked bread for 3.75 mmmmmmm!
The Centre for Alternative Technology in Wales is another inspiring place to visit. It also does lots of work on organic growing, and also has a useful website, with practical hints.
They hold courses on all aspects of environmental issues, including wind power on the 19 23 March 2007. The courses cost from 175 (unwaged) to 320 (high waged) for four days, plus accommodation.
