Organic Box Schemes

Organic Boxes
We all know that organic food is good for the environment, but in these difficult times when we are all watching just how much cash we are spending, do we need to eat organic food and, if we do, are there any ways to make it more affordable?
Well, organic boxes are available in most areas of the country and are delivered to your door each week. No driving to the supermarket (less money spent on petrol). No time spent shopping (in our busy lives this has got to be good!). No additional costs added by the supermarket for your locally produced food (back to cash!). Doesn’t that sound like it could get rid of at least some of your stress?
Many organic box schemes now also have additional products available to order. Some also have wine (like Vintage Roots), drinks and you can even get organic pet food from Green Bean Organics! (Keep an eye on SUSU Organic’s directory as more people join us)
Many people are trying vegetarian and vegan food and so the savings made from not eating meat (ever expensive) could be put towards making sure that the vegetables we eat are the very best for our bodies.
Latest research from Dr Servan-Schreiber shows that some foods may also be cancer beaters! These include Green Tea, Oyster and Thistle Mushrooms and Seaweed. According to Dr Servan-Schreiber, green veggies like brussels and broccoli help prevent tumours from developing (steam don’t boil), carrots, sweet potatoes, squash, cooked tomatoes, apricots and beetroot contain lycopene and vitamin A that inhibit the growth of some cancer cells, and moderate amounts of soy taken with green tea may inhibit the progression of oestrogen-dependent breast cancer (although he warns not to take soy if you are taking Taxol, a chemotherapy drug).
Sorry to bombard you with so much science, but who would think that a simple organic box scheme may actually help to save lives?!
It makes sense that you are what you eat, and who would put the wrong fuel into a car and expect it to work properly? Maybe, if we stick to the simple things we can be healthier, happier, less stressed, have a little more time and a little more cash. Bring on the organic boxes!!
