M & S Pays Farmers Fair Price
April 26 2010
Marks & Spencer are pioneering a fair price system for dairy farmers in the U.K. For the first time, dairy farmers will be rewarded in two ways. Not only will they be given a fair price for their produce, but they will also receive payments for maintaining healthy herds. There will also be bonuses payable for high standards of animal welfare.
Marks & Spencer will unveil the scheme next week.
Thank goodness that we can rely on one wonderful British company to ensure the livelihood of our British farmers. It is such a relief that at least this big business is concerned with more than just profit, and have an insight into the true horrors of future life if decisions by big food retailers destroy our wonderful British farming systems with their high standards of animal welfare. Not to mention how expensive imported meat and other produce will be in the future - that is if we are able to fly it in and we are not disrupted by volcanic ash again!
