Thanking Your Food
June 13 2011
Ever since I read the book 'Change Your Thoughts Change Your Life', I have gradually started to see everything in the world around me slightly differently
I don't know if it is just a process of ageing, but I get huge pleasure every day from what people call the simple things in life - hearing birds sing, sunny blue skies, sunlight streaming through the leaves on the trees making them shine different shades, walking with friends and family.......I will stop now :) I don't actually think they are simple at all though, pretty amazing really when you think of the complexity of the design.
I then watched Avatar and began to thank the universe for the food I was preparing, not for any huge reasons, but just because it seemed like quite a nice thing to do when I saw it in the movie!
Since I have been more aware of the food I am cooking with, it has also made me much more aware of any waste, and once you are in the mode of being grateful for anything that grows that we can eat, to throw something away becomes wrong on so many levels. Needless to say, I don't waste anything now :)
I mention all of this because it also brings with it a huge sense of peace and inner tranquility. A feeling of being at one with the world instead of rushing through it, grabbing things along the way.
I am not preaching or advising a whole new way of being, but would really recommend giving it a bit of a go! Maybe just saying thank you in the general direction of the food you have prepared :) I must tell you though, if you stop, you feel rather rude, with a mildly nagging thought that you have forgotten your manners!!
