New Energy Savings Grant Of £2500
November 14 2007
The Energy Savings Trust have information on new grants for energy-efficiency for your home, called the Low Carbon Buildings Grant
Before you apply, you need to complete the following energy efficiency measures to qualify for the grant:
• You need to have insulated the whole of the loft of the property to meet current building regulations (270mm of mineral wool loft insulation or suitable alternative)
• You must have installed cavity wall insulation (if you have cavity walls)
• You should have fitted low energy light bulbs in all appropriate light fittings
• You should have installed basic controls for your heating system to include a room thermostat and a programmer or timer.
It is possible to do an ‘energy efficiency test’ for your home online, but mine wouldn’t open after I had gone through the pages ticking all the boxes! However, you can also call your local Energy Saving Trust advice centre on 0800 512 012 for guidance on energy efficiency measures and energy efficiency grants available in your area, and so this may the easier option!
£2,500 maximum limit on grants per household
There is a £2,500 grant maximum per household. You can apply for more than one technology, like solar heating and loft insulation, but the funding is limited up to a maximum of £2,500 per household.

Solar thermal grant applications will be given 3 months to complete installations
Wind and solar PV will applications be given 4 months to complete installations
Ground Source Heat Pump and Biomass will be given 6 months
Hydro will be given 12 months
Technologies being installed on buildings under construction will have a grant offer validity of 6 months (except hydro which has a 12 month grant offer period)
