Children Are Eating More Fruit And Veggies

More youngsters eat fruit and veggies

md_boy picking strawbs.jpg The Department of Health have revealed that, since the school fruit and vegetable scheme started in 2004, the number of pupils achieving a five-a-day target up to November 2006 rose from 27 to 44 per cent. Fantastic!!

The scheme entitles all four to six year olds in state schools to a free piece of fruit or vegetables each day.

I think that this is great because children get used to eating the fruit and veggies and then will prefer the delicious fresh healthy taste compared to fatty artificially flavoured gristly processed food. (NO bias there!!)

However, weather does dictate food choices, and this wet dull summer certainly made us tuck into comfort foods to beat the bad weather blues. The lack of sunshine made us stay at home and eat more chocolate, but hopefully the late summer turned us all back into salad eaters!!
