Natural Cough And Cold Remedies

Natural Cough and Cold Remedies
Research is now showing that our mother’s remedies, passed down from their mothers and generations before them, really do work, and the science is now there to prove why.
Honey is one of our old favourites – used to soothe coughs and sore throats. We now know that it is antibacterial and can also be used to treat wounds
Lemon juice is often associated with honey (my Gran also used to put a nip of whisky in with the mixture, together with hot water!) and is traditionally taken for sore throats. A more modern use is to take each morning in hot water as your first drink of the day to help digestion!
Lavender is thought to relax and help us sleep, but did you know that it is also an antiseptic?
Garlic is also antibacterial and was widely used before the days of antibiotics to ward of ill health. You can chew on raw garlic but it may be more friendly to eat it in capsule farm!
Cranberries and blackcurrants are widely used in cough and cold remedies, but most berries provide us with vitamins and minerals needed to ward off colds and heal our bodies. A good balanced diet with lots of different colours is a good guide to staying healthy.
Liquorice is an old fashioned remedy for colds, sore throats and flu, as well as gastric problems. It was used in many early cough medicines and you can also drink it as a tea now.
So, mum really did know best after all – perhaps we should look back on other tried and tested methods and lifestyles and enjoy their benefits too!
